This GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Pam Nyland's recovery from her stroke on September 13th. As you may have read on the CaringBridge site, Pam suffered a hemorrhagic stroke that Tuesday leaving her speech and [right-side] motor skills deeply impaired. We are very fortunate that this stroke did not take anything more and that she is still her cheerful, friendly, self.
At this point, we are now planning for the future and her recovery needs which may or may not be covered by her insurance company. For the next month, she will be in a skilled nursing facility and then go to her daughter Merilee's home where she will be looked after for the duration of her recovery.
Even though we are nearly two weeks into this healing process, we still do not have a clear picture of what her recovery needs will be in terms of cost, equipment, etc for the next year (one year is the estimated time frame from the physicians), we do know some of the short-term basics. Conservatively, we are looking at $7,000 in out of pocket costs to cover the skilled nursing facility, a hospital or adjustable bed, and other special equipment necessary to function and safely move about in her daughter's home. Moving forward, additional physical/occupational/speech therapy may be needed.
Ultimately, we are thankful for any support for Pam's recovery whether it be financial/emotional/spiritual.
