Hello Friends, Family and Acquaintance
As some of you know I was accepted into the Ryerson University Midwifery Education Program and recently completed my very first year of the program. Becoming a Midwife is a life dream of mine and at this time it is the only thing I am truly focusing all of my energy on.
I choose this profession to help Black and Indigenous babies and their families celebrate those first breathes of life in ways that felt meaningful. I choose midwifery because I want to see queer and two spirit people feel like people in healthcare reflect some of their experiences. I choose midwifery because I wanted to provide for the communities I belong to and have allyship within.
I recently got my grades back and I failed Anatomy and Physiology by 1.5% ending with a 58.5%. This was heartbreaking news as I tried my very best to complete this course with a passing mark. This was my first science course in 10years (since high school) and my first ever university level science course. I was able to pass my other science and social science classes but even with a tutor half way through the year it was too much information to absorb in conjunction with my other classes.
My options are to slow down in the program and take a year off or to take a fast track online course this summer. I am more than willing and confident I will pass a summer intensive but the barrier is money. I am applying for summer work but that income is suppose to go to paying off my third and fourth year of school. I will continue looking for summer employment to help pay for year 3 and 4. My crowd funding goal is $1200.00 (cost of the online course including proctor fees). I am also considering subletting my apartment for the summer and couch surfing with friends to save money while completing the course.
Until the day education is free for those who are eager, willing and capable thank you for your time and potential donation.
