Leg Amputation for Princess Shireen
Princess Shireen was brought to me while I was working a night shift at veterinary emergency hospital. She was found outside with a badly broken and infected leg, with no microchip and no known owner. I was supposed to euthanize her, but instead I fell in love.
As an veterinarian, I see a lot of very sad cases. People often bring in pets they've found outside that are sick or dying, and sometimes the only choice is euthanasia. In cases where it's possible and humane to try to save the pet, I do my best... but I don't own my own practice. If I donate my own time to perform procedures, I often get a break on the cost, but the price is still substantial for a new grade with six figures of school debt to pay off and a salary less than half that.
Compassion for surrendered pets has resulted in a few thousand dollars coming out of my own pocket over the years I've been practicing, not to mention many mornings and evenings of syringe feeding, administering fluids, and giving medications at home.
This time, I'm hoping others will support my efforts. I'm going to amputate Princess Shireen's leg, after which I will work to find her a permanent home. She is an incredible love bug, and if you give her enough scratches she may even start to drool as she leans into you.
Thank you for helping out this beautiful cat.
