Pioneer tricycle fund

Hi there! We are Gavin and Candice, we teach adaptive Physical Education for Portland Public Schools. One of the places that we spend time is a cluster of three programs called Pioneer Special Schools.
Pioneer is a special program school in the Portland Public School system. Many students come to us after a long series of problems at home, at school, and in the community. In other settings they have been seen as either failures or victims. At Pioneer Special Schools we adopt a skills-based approach that replaces the blaming and punishment/reward systems that children and their families have so often dealt with in the past.
Students at Pioneer benefit from physical activity and enjoy being outside, rain or shine. The school currently has two tricycles that are in semi-working condition and one that is out of comission. Our current trikes are mostly size-appropriate for students who are in high school. Our goal is to raise enough money to buy two new tricycles for the school so that (1) more students have access to riding a trike, (2) students who do not participate in typical PE settings have an alternative option for exercise, and (3) students with disabilities who are unable to ride a traditional bicycle are able to ride the tricycles on campus. With the current access to bikes, we have seen an increase in attentiveness during PE classes, a desire to be more active, and have observed other health benefits.
In addition to adding new trikes, we would like to repair the two that are in semi-working condition, and hope to revive the one that can no longer be ridden. We are working with local bike shops to determine the best/fiscally responsible plan for rehabbing our broken trikes.
Thank you for your help and consideration, these kiddos will benefit greatly from your contribution.
