....on a smallholding in the English/Welsh borders called Coed Major Farm.
Coed Major Farm is sited in unspoilt countryside with grand views of the Golden Valley and beyond. It is perched on the lower flanks of Hay Bluff and the Black Mountains, and is adjacent to the Brecon Beacons National Park. It is also believed to be the highest inhabited property in Southern England & Wales.
I need to raise money to pay for the materials to resurface the one kilometre-long track linking the farm to the nearest tarred road. Currently this is a bumpy single lane farm track with rough bare stone in patches and several car-wrecking potholes. Over the years I have spent many hours filling holes, levelling the roadway and repairing it in any way that I could, but there is only so much one can do with the materials to hand....
This GoFundMe campaign is purely to help me buy the material required to properly surface the entire length of the track - I will require 400 tonnes of limestone scalpings and have been quoted a price of £14.50 per tonne (ex VAT) delivered, making a total of £5800. I will deal with the VAT, pay for all machinery hire, and arrange or provide all the labour to lay down the scalpings.
There are a number of ways to donate, that will not only make you a "Friend of the Farm" but also give you access to free camping at the farm and / or use of the other facilities on site like the lodge I am constructing.
Option 1 - Friend of the Farm Bronze
A £10 donation will allow me to purchase 0.7 tonnes of limestone scalpings to use on the track. In return for your donation, you get 1 nights free camping for up to 2 people.
Option 2 - Friend of the Farm Silver
a £20 donation will allow me to purchase 1.4 tonnes of limestone scalpings to use on the track. In return, you get 1 nights camping for up to 4 people, or 2 nights camping for up to 2 people.
Option 3 - Friend of the Farm Gold
a £100 donation will allow me to buy nearly 7 tonnes of limestone scalpings to use on the track. For this level of pledge you will have full use of the lodge for a whole weekend. The lodge comprises of two static caravans within a timber shell, can accomodate up to 8 people in relative comfort and has basic amenities such as two self-contained kitchens, two small bathrooms with showers, bedrooms with fresh bedding and an outside area for barbecues and leisure etc.
*PLEASE NOTE: the lodge will only be available from June 2017 and onwards
Option 4 - Friend of the Farm Platinum
a £1000 donation will allow me to buy nearly 70 tonnes of limestone scalpings to use on the track. This donation will give you full access and use of the farm for an event spanning a whole weekend, including use of the barn and fields for parking and camping. An ideal option should you be thinking of a birthday party, wedding celebration or all weekend music festival. Please contact me before making a donation at this level as there are a small number of conditions attached.
As soon as we have funds available I will start to buy the limestone scalpings and start work on the resurfacing. When this happens I will update the GoFundMe campaign site with "work in progress" updates and pictures. That way you will immediately see the effect of your donation and see how far I am towards the target amount to complete the campaign.
Once the track is fully completed, visitors to the farm will be able to drive along the track in a far smoother and more pleasant manner. No more driving along for 20 minutes at 5 miles an hour leaving bits of your vehicle behind! The major benefit is that Coed Major farm will finally become accessible to all normal family cars, motorbikes, mountain bikes, road bikes, unicycles and walkers!
