You can read the original post below. As an update: Ophelia received her new liver on May 1st, 2020. She was making amazing progress, and we finally got to see the baby she really is. Since then, multiple hospitalizations for infections has set her development back. Most recently she was diagnosed with PTLD, a rare and serious complication of her transplant. She has been receiving infusion treatments at The Jimmy Fund Clinic at Dana Farber, and as of this writing we are awaiting the results of a biopsy and scan to see if the treatment is working. If so, she will continue her current treatment until February 2021. If not, she will need chemotherapy. We are hopeful that the treatment is working, and that our whole family can be together at home for Christmas. ********************************************** On August 27th, Bob and Alyssa Aftosmes Tobio (and big brother Edison!) welcomed their second child, a little girl named Ophelia, into their family. Unfortunately their lives were turned upside down when Ophelia was diagnosed with a rare liver disease called biliary atresia when she was 6 weeks old. She has had multiple surgeries with the hopes of delaying a liver transplant for as long as possible but unfortunately the disease has progressed. Because of this diagnosis and the treatments and surgeries, both Bob and Alyssa have had to take leave of absences from work. Ophelia's care is expensive and the cost of a liver transplant is enormous. We would like to help ease their financial worries with the help of family and friends.
