My name is Lurine Laffrey, mother of delwayne ferraro. In 2008 my son delwayne was diagnosed with a rare and recurring dangerous tumor called chordoma. The type of surgery to be performed could only be done out of the state because of the specialty and complexity of the surgery. To make the sory a little short. Between 2008 and 2009 he had to have the brain surgery 3 times because one after the first surgery at the Mayo clinic it was not successful, he was reffered out to Pensylvania medical center hospital where there were doctors who perform these very intricate sugeries. The tumor returned in March of 2009 full blown where then he went to get the surgery done in pensylvania. Everything went well, he came home had 5 weeks of Proton beam therapy at shands and came home. In the begining of december 2009 he got severely sick. Ambulance took him to Mayo clinic. He had spinal fluid leak to the brain which was very severe. The Mayo clinic had him flown out by medical plane low flying no cabin pressure with medical staff due to the urgency of the situation. this caused him to have meningitis.  The site was fixed and after 3 weeks there he came back home. That made it 3 brain surgery between 2008-2009.  They lost their job him and his wife and their condo. Had huge financial struggle, but praise God he got a job, rebuild his life and just 2 years ago bought a house. Almost finish with his BS degree in accounting which is what he does at ORMC. After 7 years in May of this year he got real sick same symptoms. Tumor came back in a different site close to where the other was also with 2 smaller one. His surgeons are now in Ohio The james cancer hospital where the he went to on July 25 for the surgery. Surgery went well. He stayed 3 weeks came back home. After 2 weeks he got very sick with pain in his neck and not able to move his head. Rushed him to the ER . Turned out that he has a leak which this time had his ventricles filled with air. they rushed him to ORMC where they dragged their feet to rush him out to get the care he need. It's literally been a nightmare since then. After 5 days the approved the medical plane transport to Ohio where they had to rush him into surgery. Closed the area. He then had 2 extraventricular drain to the right and left side of his head.  He remained in ICU for 30 days plus been back into surgery 3 times since because of other complications. been intubated twice because now he's fighting the meningitis plus a nonsocomial yeast infection that also got into the spinal fluid. His wife had to take a FMLA without getting payed. We rotate flying there so someon is with him at all times. They have 2 boys 8 and 5. I have lost many hours from work. Because we try for him not to be alone. With lots of prayers from facebook friends and everyone else he's improving. He's out of ICU, but still have a long recovery of rehab.  The family helps as much as we can. But there is also financial strain on myself loosing days of work to be there in Ohio.  This money will be used to help his medical expense, family and housing expense. Funds are needed ASAP because his insurance won't pay for rehab which he have to have. as a mother my son has gone thru a life/death situation it means a lot to me if they could get some help to get back on their feet. We have been paying airfares and hotel for the last 30 days plus.  I would consider this a blessing that is to be thankful for forever. Thankful first and foremost to God to have kept him strong thru all these complications and keeping him alive. thankful to everyone that kept him in his prayers and thankful to all that will help in any way.
