Help for Daniel
Donation protected
In June 2018, 3 days before High School graduation, coming back from a bonfire party, my son Daniel, who was a passenger, was severely injured in a car accident that involved speed and deer at night. He sustained Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), collapsed lung, and neck and facial fractures. He was only given 1% chance of survival. The recovery process has been slow and emotional. There were a lot of tears and prayers. Every time when it seemed like he was getting better, he had major setbacks, like hydrocephalus (fluid in the brain), pneumonias and seizures. And the worst happened in October when he developed neuroleptic malignant syndrome and catatonia that almost killed him for the second time. The NMS has resulted in major physical setback, as Daniel’s muscles were destroyed, and he became unresponsive again. Finally in December Daniel started to recover, he said first few words just before Christmas, had first few sips of water and had first few bites of food in January. He is learning all basic functions of life from the beginning-speach, eating, walking...... Now Daniel needs a lot of continuous, uninterrupted therapies to continue his brain and physical recovery. We are hoping to be able to get an additional hours of speech and English tutors, and hopefully physical therapists with the help of the GoFundMe, since the insurance coveres only few hours a week. At this point Daniel would benefit from more intensive therapy than what is being provided. Unfortunately, all of theses services are very costly and our family would appreciate any help and support. I had to quit work when the accident happened, and we ran out of savings many months ago. We even ended up purchasing hospital bed, which put a huge dent in our finances. The wheelchair that Daniel is using is still a loaner, which means it does not fit him properly, because the insurance is getting a long sweet time with the approval process. I apologize for not being able to provide frequent updates, but since we brought Daniel home in November, with the 24 hour day care, I have little to no time for anything. There are days that I get only few hours of sleep.
Even though the last few months have been very hard, we consider Daniel’s recovery a miracle. Thank you!
