I am thankful we did not lose you sooner.
On September 25, 2016 my dad, Gary Kubicki, passed away. It’s hard to believe that, despite everything he had been through, he never gave up. My dad was the most loving son, husband, father, and friend who would do absolutely anything for anyone despite his own circumstances. He was such a giving soul who had so much love in his heart.
I am sharing his story in hopes of raising funds for his funeral and burial costs. Because my mom cared for my dad full-time, she could only work part-time, and with my brother finishing his bachelor’s degree and my recent enrollment in nursing school, we are struggling to make ends meet.
In 2009, my dad suffered from a hemorrhagic stroke. He was only 54 at the time and my brother and I were only teenagers, 16 and 17 years old. After brain surgery and months of rehabilitation my dad was able to come home to us. He had some deficits, including difficulty balancing and loss of peripheral vision. This meant he was no longer able to drive, but luckily Kory and I both had our license and were now able to drive my dad around. I guess it was pay back for all the times I made my dad drop me off at the mall.
With the love and support of our family and friends, my dad progressed throughout the next seven years, during which time he was present to see my brother and I graduate high school, get accepted to college, and even see me graduate college, knowing Kory wasn’t far behind. The past few years have been very trying on our family both financially and emotionally, but we somehow made it through as a family.
This brings me to August 2016. My dad had just gotten approved to have his knee replaced after months of no diet Pepsi and no salt. If you knew my dad, this is unheard of! A week after the approval, my dad suffered from a MCA (middle cerebral artery) ischemic stroke. This stroke left him with deficits that we hoped and prayed he would be able to overcome: left side paralysis, difficulty swallowing, and decreased talking. He was moved to ShorePointe Nursing Rehab after a week spent at Mclaren Macomb Hospital. Both the hospital and rehab facility tried their best to care for my dad and work towards strengthening his body, and my dad planned to work hard at rehab and come home to our family. However, on September 25, 2016, God had other plans.
Thank you all who took the time to read this, along with the heartfelt messages and continuous prayers. I was blessed with an incredible father who will be missed and loved by so many.
