Hello, my name is Grey Whitney.
We received an eviction notice on the 6th of June. I am currently staying with my mother, stepfather, and little brother for the summer. Additionally, DTE Energy has threatened us with a shutoff on June 24th. As per the lease, failure to pay the DTE bill will result in eviction.
My parents are disabled. My mother, despite having Lupus, fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome, and osteoarthritis (in addition to others) was denied Social Security Disability by the Social Security Administration. She was denied on the basis of being "too young," and being "capable of finding work." In addition to this, the money my family received from SSA for my younger brother, Shamus, was terminated as a result of him graduating high school; this was despite him still being a minor. Lastly, In April, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services wrongfully terminated my stepdad's insurance, leading to insurance premiums that have decreased available income for us.
Donations will go to covering the outstanding rent payments and giving a partial payment to DTE, whose prices have recently gone up.
I have no car and am without a second option for a living situation. On top of that, I would rather not see my disabled parents, little brother who is about to start college, and three adorably quirky cats I've known for almost my entire life become homeless, or in the latter's case, have to be given away to a shelter. I love them all deeply and do not want to see this happen.
It would mean a lot to all of us if you could donate or share. Thank you.
