She said, with a low and broken voice, "My husband passed away over a year ago. I have four kids, the eldest 13 and the youngest a year and a half. I am alone here and do not have any family or relatives. My governmental support falls short and does not cover my monthly bills. When the ice cream truck passes by, I have to cover my children's ears... Because... Because I can't buy them any."
That shattered my heart. The people we meet and the unexpected stories that they have hidden, something really worthwile to reflect on. We live in very difficult times where some families struggle to make ends meet. It is important to build a sense of community and to bring smiles to those children who when the ice cream truck comes singing by, they do not innocently and heartbrokenly watch it pass by.
We can each make a difference if we collectively hold hands and reach out to these helpless families. We do not have to always rush to have the newest phone, the latest fashion line, or have the most exotic meals. It really does not take much to make a difference, we just have to have the courage to step up to contribute to that making with whatever capacity we may have.
I am raising funds to try and help as many refugee families (Iraqi and Syrian) in the Philadelphia area as I possibly can. Most of the families that I intend to assist live in the northeast part of the city, where I live as well. Lists of these families are available at local mosques, which I will be colloborating with. All proceeds will go to assist these families (I will pay all Go Fund Me fees). Do not think that $5 will not make a difference, think of the smile you will put on the little kid's face when your $5 is in their hand. Think of the burden that you will contribute in lifting off of the household's shoulders. My initial goal is not that much. If everyone I know donates that $5, I am certain that the goal will quickly be reached and beyond. I encourage you all to sincerely contribute for this cause. I would also greatly appreciate it if you help spread the word. Remember to count your blessings and that there are so many people out there that wish they had what you take for granted.
Thank you for your contribution and I pray that you continue to have blessed and prosperous lives!!
Should you have any concerns, please feel free to reach out to me: [email redacted]
