Getting back on our feet

Little of you know, but since Silas was born he’s had problems gaining weight. Dexter also had problems when he was a baby, but after we switched to formula he plumped right up (I had quite a few problems breastfeeding). So by Silas’s 1 month checkup, we noticed he hadn’t been gaining much weight and switched him to formula hoping for the same outcome as we had with Dexter. Unfortunately, he is still having weight problems at almost 12 weeks old.

Thursday (August 18th) the boys had their yearly wellness checks and Silas had another weight check. We went in hoping for the best, and came out with some not so great news. Little Pooter was 9 pounds, 8 oz.. the bottom of the percentile for his age. As we were told this news, his doctor said we need to go straight home to pack some bags and go straight to the hospital so we can run tests.

As we arrived.. our smiley, happy little baby was tested for numerous things. One of them being Covid. In the middle of the night we were informed he had tested positive. Then Friday after an ultrasound on his heart was done, we found out he has a small hole that will repair itself over the next 6 months, but is something we need to keep an eye on.

My immediate thoughts were that maybe Covid could be a reason he’s not gaining weight.. or maybe it’s the small hole in his heart? But then we were told that yes, Covid could have made a small impact on his weight, but that’s just a factor for this past week. &&the hole in his heart isn’t a reason for his weight, either.

So as of Sunday evening, we’re back at home with little answers as before. He’s supposed to gain an ounce a day, but is only gaining 20 grams. Which is better than before, but still not the best. So we’ve been instructed to feed him more frequently, but we don’t have a reason for why his weight is what it is.

We’ll have a follow up appointment set for later this week, and are hoping we might have some more answers, but to my understanding this might be an ongoing thing for awhile.

So with all that being said, I’ve missed almost a week of work and it’s the slowest time of year for a server/waitress (August). I might even have to miss work in the future, but that’s to be determined. Tyler is working, but 1 income even for a week isn’t enough right now.

I never thought we’d be in this position to be asking for help like this, but money is tight and bills are needing paid. We’re on a couple payment plans (from when I was on maternity leave) so if we miss a payment or are late, we’ll have to pay our past due in full and we really can’t afford that.

I hate to ask for help, but right now we really do need all the help we can get..
