Hello!

My name is Micah Flamm, and I’m a filmmaker based in California. Fresh off producing a slate of narrative and commercial projects, I’m now producing a film that explores stagnation, survival, and self-reinvention.

THE STORY

Another Life is a grounded character study about a man who retreats from his chaotic life to live on a rundown sailboat. While trying to fix the boat, he’s forced to confront the internal disorder he can’t outrun. Surrounded by other flawed and eccentric characters at the marina, he’s drawn into a rough, unexpected community that challenges him in ways he didn’t expect.

This is a story about inertia and resilience — the quiet, often uncomfortable process of figuring out what’s next when you’ve hit a wall. It doesn’t offer easy answers, but it does examine what happens when someone decides to stay put and deal with the mess instead of running from it.

WHY THIS FILM?

In an industry saturated with escapism, "Another Life" focuses on something more honest — staying grounded, working through discomfort, and rebuilding something from scratch. This is not a redemption arc tied in a bow. It’s about slow change, manual labor, and confronting yourself without the filters.

Told with realism and dark humor, this film is for anyone who’s ever felt the need to disengage from the status quo.

VISUAL STRATEGY

The look of the film mirrors the protagonist’s state of mind. When life is stalled, the visuals are static, muted, and raw. As things begin to shift, the lens becomes more mobile, the palette gradually warms, and the world becomes more dynamic.

Shot with natural lighting, the cinematography embraces imperfection — shadows, smudges, and clutter — reflecting the physical and psychological grit of life on a barely-floating sailboat.

INFLUENCES

This project takes cues from character-driven films that live in the quiet tension of human experience.
