CDO PERFORMING AT CARNEGIE HALL

Donation protected
It's 8:20 am on a weekday morning and the orchestra members begin to play.  They will practice this morning, and again this afternoon, and more still when they get home this evening. This is not a professional orchestra full of career musicians--
it's the Canyon Del Oro High School Orchestra.
These dedicated student artists have been practicing every day for many years of their young lives.

 This year, however, their hard work and love of music has resulted in a rare and prestigious honor awarded to only 6 other high school orchestras in the nation.

They've been invited to play at Carnegie Hall in New York City March 20, 2017;
an honor many professional musicians have only dreamed of. There's just one catch....
They need to pay for the expensive trip themselves. They have the drive, they have the talent, they have a plan--now they need the support of their community.

These young artists represent not only their school but the larger community of Tucson. To perform at Carnegie Hall is the opportunity of a lifetime-the stuff of dreams, and they need our help to make it happen.

In order to make the journey they need to raise a grand total of $75,000.  They are utilizing every means at their disposal including this GoFundMe site where they hope to raise a minimum of $25,000 towards their final goal.

Orchestra Director Toru Tagawa comments: “I never had the opportunity myself to go to Carnegie Hall. That I can offer students that is unbelievable. I went New York City as a high school student but we didn’t perform at Carnegie Hall, we performed at the shopping center, which was cool back then but to perform at a historical, big auditorium is an honor. Students and parents will remember that for their lives.”

When asked what this experience would mean to her, Rachel Blair, a student musician, explained:
"Music has always been a major aspect of my life, without it I wouldn’t be the person I am today. It’s my way of venting and escaping when I have challenges in my life. Going to Carnegie Hall would make me feel like we have achieved a huge success."

Another student, Jorja Overbey, articulates:
"Playing music is a part of my soul, a part to embrace. This trip to Carnegie Hall gives me the chance to allow my soul to soar."

Please consider donating to this amazing group of student musicians who are part of our community. When we enrich the lives of our children, we enrich our community as a whole. Thank you!
