On Monday, December 28, 2015, Al spent much of the day at Willowbrook Methodist Hospital ER checking on a very acute abdominal pain that he had been dealing with off and on over the weekend. The medical workup indicated an "ill-defined mass in the pancreas".
He posted this information on FB so he could reach all his clients. And emails were sent out to the Al Lawrence running club members. He wanted them to know that during the next few months he expected to miss some training sessions, but will continue to work and be present at Memorial Park to the best of his ability. He asked for best wishes, thoughts, and prayers during this difficult time. He was later diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer.
His battle has continued now for several months. He has undergone radiation and chemo treatments as well as a surgery that involved the removal of 2/3rds of his Pancreas , Spleen, and an artery to his liver. His chemo therapy continues and at this point he has been accepted into an experimental trail. He has had good days and some not so good days but his spirits remain high and he continues to smile and work through the pain and sickness. Due to these treatments and healing times Al and Connie have both missed a lot of work. This Gofundme page is being created to assist them with lost income and will help them focus on treatment and healing without the worry of paying the bills.
Al is very thankful for his family and friends that have continued their support and prayers for his healthy recovery. Al is loved by so many and he continues to be grateful for life. His philosophy is "Never Give Up" and "Keep The Faith". He lives by that philosophy every day.
