Oliver's journey started at just 4 months old.

Mom and dad noticed that Oliver would wake up with swollen eyelids after sleeping. Over the next two months, the swelling happened more and more. At 6 months, mom called the pediatrician for help.

Over the next 5 months, after ruling out many different things, including liver concerns, it was then that mom and dad saw a nephrologist (kidney specialist) at Children's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. The nephrologist ordered genetic testing and at 9 months old, it was found that Oliver had a genetic kidney disease called Infantile Nephrotic Syndrome.

Since Oliver's diagnosis, he has been hospitalized 11 times. His hospitalizations have included pneumonia, bronchiolitis, peritonitis, and many other respiratory difficulties. Through these hospitalizations, it has been found that Oliver also has Hypothyroidism, Hypertension, and has Anemia issues. Just recently, doctors started treating Oliver like a patient with Cystic Fibrosis due to his ongoing lung complications.

Oliver's daily life consists of taking over 10 doses of medications in a day. He has vest (shaking) treatments, nebulizer treatments, and more. He has blood draws at least monthly as well as constant doctor and specialist appointments.

In time, Oliver will need a kidney transplant. His kidney's will stop functioning as they need to and eventually, Oliver will need to be put on dialysis. Mom and dad both know that one of them will have to stop working in order to care for Oliver at home when things become worse. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing when this will occur.

Mom and dad have exhausted their time off of work to stay with Oliver when he's sick or hospitalized. They struggle many months and have emptied their bank account numerous times due to the additional expenses that come with Oliver's medical needs and hospitalizations. However, they do it all for that sweet boy.
