I wanted to share with you all a little bit about Dom's disease and the upcoming surgery in San Digeo scheduled in November.
It took us a year for him to get correctly diagnosed with a rare disease called Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) - specifically he has an even more rare form of Pulmonary Hypertension called chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). We have been in and out of the hospital over the past year including ICU. I have never been so scared in my life and I thought I was going to lose my... husband of almost 13 years.
The disease causes Dominique to have extreme shortness of breath, fatigue, and weakness. A clot like mass has taken over both of his lungs and restricts blood flow to his lungs. Because of this restricted blood flow, he now has to wear oxygen and the disease makes his right side of his heart to work even harder leading to an enlarged heart.
Thankfully, this rare form of PH is the ONLY form of PH that is potentially curable through a surgery called PTE, or pulmonary thromboendarterectomy.
Because of the complexity of his case, The Houston Medical Center has referred his surgery to the world leader of PTE surgery at the University of California, San Diego. We will be flying out around November 13th and will be in San Diego for about 3 weeks at minimum.
Dominique has not been able to work since February and we have been barely making it by with only my income. At the end of the month, we will lose his insurnace coverage and will have to pick up COBRA to get this surgery done (we all know how expense that can be). Unfortanately, because of the previous hospital stays earlier this year, I am out of PTO and will not be paid while I am away from the office in and in San Digeo.
We are asking for any finanical help that you can offer to ensure we can pay for COBRA, get to San Diego and the expenses that will come along with that, get the surgery done, and can keep our regular bills current during the recovery process.
Asking for help is never easy and we are very thankful for everyone that has participated in our previous fundraising events. We are confident with everyone's continued support and prayers we will make this happen.
