Dana Kneeland, a 25 year old combat war veteran and new father was diagnosed with stage 2 Hodgkin's lymphoma August of 2016, just before his daughter's first birthday. Hodgkin's lymphoma is a cancer of the lymphatic system, an important part of the body's immune system.
The road to diagnosis was long after the discovery of a large tumor on a lymph node gland in his neck. It took 8 months to get a diagnosis. Doctors took many scans, blood tests, and biopsies with no answers. Finally, the tumor got so big that Dana needed emergency surgery in fear that it might effect his airway. They were able to remove 80% of the tumor, and with the tissue were able to get a diagnosis. Within a month's time the tumor grew back in size.
Fortunately, with the start of chemotherapy Dana's tumor has started to shrink. He will receive two cycles of chemotherapy. Cycles are administered half at a time every two weeks for two months.
Recently, after the first treatment of chemo Dana caught a cold and was in the hospital for four days. Shockingly his white blood cell count was as low as 0.
Dana continues to work to provide for his family. With all the doctors visits and time spent in the hospital and possible future time spent in the hospital it is scary to think about where this young family might end up financially. As the aunt of Dana's daughter Layla I am asking for friends, family and anyone far and wide to help out by any means necessary.
