Alison's medical support

Donation protected
This past month, my family received some devastating news, my niece Alison Hebert, was diagnosed with Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.  She had several years and months of dealing with severe symptoms including weakness, fatigue and falling before she was diagnosed.

My sweet niece, Alison, was just on the precipice of achieving her lifetime goal of getting her Doctorate in Medical Sociology and she pushed through, despite illness, to achieve her master's degree. Due to her illness, she was forced to leave this program but this did not deter her from enrolling in another master's program closer to her mother in southwestern Florida. Alison is a proud aunt who loves to read, communicate with friends and family on-line, pamper her little dog, Ernie, cheer for the Chicago Cubs, and spend time with friends and family.

It was a blessing that Alison's education brought her back to South Florida so she could be reunited with her mother, brother and his family. During this trying time, Alison's loving mother has been by her side, taking her to clinics and doctors around the state to finally find an answer to the cause of her declining in health. Despite this devastating news of her diagnosis, they worked together to tap in to local support in the Naples FL area. They have found a wonderful resource in the local MS Association and received help from her neurologist to get enrolled in a controlled study of experimental medication to treat MS.

Alison will now be receiving ongoing medication for 3 years in Naples Florida.  While the MS Association offer reasonably priced services and the extremely expensive medication will be covered by the experimental study, unfortunately, not everything will be covered. She will have doctor visits, copays and other traveling and unexpected expenses due to her diagnosis.  Alison does not have medical insurance as she lost the university coverage when she was forced to leave the PhD program.  Additional expenses include relocating costs to be near her family and her new university, and repair costs to fix her car's air conditioning (heat causes worsening symptoms in MS patients). Her hope of self-funding her education by working part time is no longer possible.

The money we receive would go to extensive copays, therapist bills, travel costs associated with her illness, and the additional costs associated with her recovery and medication. We appreciate every dollar donated and any words of love and support. If you cannot donate now, your thoughts and prayers are enormously valued and felt! We will be forever in gratitude to any help for my sweet, intelligent, ambitious, loving Alison.
