Making Magic Come Alive!

The Harry Potter series holds a special place in many of our hearts.   This year, I have watched as several of my students met Harry and his friends for the very first time.  They opened The Sorcerer's Stone and never looked back.

Three very special students celebrated Harry's 11th birthday and followed him all the way through the Battle of Hogwarts.  This is an incredible accomplishment - to read all 7 books in less than an entire school year.  As a 5th grader.  These three ask me almost every day for more Harry Potter trivia; they told me that May 2nd is "Harry Potter Day"; they reread the ending of Book 6 to look for clues they missed directing them to the whereabouts of the missing horcruxes.  These students are dedicated readers, scholars, and HP aficionados.

This summer, I want to take these special three on a surprise trip to the Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, Florida.  I know that it would be a truly memorable experience for my students to see and feel Hogwarts, Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley.  It would confirm the true joy and raw emotions that one gets from reading a great book.  They would see first hand all of the imaginative things people can do with words on a page.   It would be unforgettable.

Help me make magic come alive for my students.
