Vidalia's Kidney Transplant Journey

Donation protected
Hello to all,

My daughter Vidalia (Vida) is currently undergoing peritoneal dialysis at home due to stage 5 kidney renal failure.

She was 4 when she first went into the hospital and we learned that she was suffering from Vesicoureteral Reflux, which is when urine flows backward from the bladder into the kidneys.  We also learned that one of her kidneys was smaller and not growing.

Fast forward through years of nephrology appointments and daily antibiotic doses,  -Vidalia turned 12 and was free from reflux!  Her bladder had matured and her condition had corrected itself.

The next time she was in the hospital, was because of Bell Palsy.  "Mom, I have a crooked smile, she said.  We were having a good pillow fight game and I remember saying.  "That's because you're laughing too hard", which only made all of us laugh even harder - but then I saw it
 :(

Looking back I now know why she got the chicken pox at 12 when I vaccinnated Amaranta, my younger daughter. Years of antibiotic medications had affected her immune system and Bell Palsy was diagnosed as a viral infection due to her low immune system.  It was March and Vidalia was 14.

We were planning her cotillion (quinceanera) party for her in September of 2011 and it was a hot June night.  It was the beginning of what today she calls "her journey" about to begin -
We rushed her to the hospital and she was immediately admitted into the ICU and stayed for an entire week. Her kidneys were not doing their job - not getting rid of the sodium and her BP was outrageously high, her vision was blurred and her heart enlarged.

This is where faith truly kicked in - it was the only way we could keep peace in our hearts.  Our daughter was in His mighty hands and out of ours.  God was there!  Faithfully I saw Him in the people that took care of her, and in the people that took care of all of our family in so many ways.

Vidalia is 20 today and God is still walking close to her. The doctors said her kidneys were scarred and would slowly deteriorate due to the reflux she had experienced in her childhood.  The diagnosis of Chronic Kidney disease has given her a social life full in meeting various nephralogy doctors, lab technicians, and nutrionists. She's still in a multi-pill popping daily routine and sustaining on a vegetarian diet which I'm sure is the source of her inner joy!
I'm kidding of course  ^_^  since I know she loves her "carne asada" and  will surely read this.  I love my daughter with all my heart and my life is spent well when I find a way to make her smile.

She carries her own joy and love for life  - I haven't found those "rose colored glasses" that she consistantly looks through but I'm thankful God has provided them to her. She's had to mature too quickly in this situation but at the same time she's acknowledged God has loved her from an early age.  I see your good plans for her, my father.  She serves at church and is willfully ready to take on an adventure.  I see her getting ready to take flight.

And so please, first of all your prayers are very much appreciated!!
