Miracles for Mia

Story

During an ultrasound at 32 weeks pregnant with a specialist 230 miles outside of our hometown, we were given the news our newborn would require open heart surgery (OHS), due to the diagnostic of Dextro-Transposition of the Great Arteries (dtga) and Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD). I was forced by HR to quit my decent paying job although they knew the struggles soon to come. I was scheduled to be induced Tuesday September 6th at UNM Hospital, but three hours in, it was cancelled. Wednesday afternoon, Mia's cardiac team decided it was safer to deliver her now. September 8th a Heart Warrior was born, Mia Grace Nevarez weighing in at 5lbs 4oz. They were prepared to recessitate her and send her to the cath lab for a Balloon Catheter, but she was born in better condition than they anticipated. Soon after birth, she was placed on a respirator in case she needed it later. From the NICU, we were then discharged and admitted to the PICU. On Monday Sept. 19th at only 11 days old, Mia underwent her Arterial Switch Operation (ASO). She had complications getting off bypass, and was placed on ECMO. Two days later Mia had to go back to the operation room for an emergency OHS. Her pediatric cardiac surgeon Dr. Marco Ricci was able to reposition her coronary arteries that were not showing enough blood flow to pump to her heart muscle. Test results showed an improvement in circulation but if Mia cannot get off ECMO Sunday, we will be flown to Vanderbilt Univeristy Medical Center in Nashville, TN. That's about 1,350 miles away from our hometown. Vanderbilt has already accepted Mia, and would transport her and I where they will try to take her off ECMO as well, while we wait for a perfect match. If she can't get off ECMO, Mia will need a new heart in order to come home and play with her big brother Elijah, as well as meet her family and friends anxiously awaiting her return home. If it's not asking for too much, even a dollar could go a long ways. Mia, her Mom & Dad (Joey & Alora), and overprotective big brother Elijah would appreciate your help tremendously. Please share Mia's story. We're desperately trying to save her in anyway we can ❤️ Thank you for taking the time to read a quick glimpse at Mias battle she will overcome. Thank you & God Bless you all!
