Asha-Kai Senior Thesis Film

Above is a Trailer of a film my mom and I did last year called : An Inaccurate Truth
My name is Asha-Kai Grant. My passion is telling stories through documentary film.
I am film major at Pratt Institute and will be directing a documentary film about my mother’s search to find her birth-parents and my biological grandparents for my senior thesis. I have always enjoyed documenting the stories of others but this will be a special film because I will be telling my own.
Although my mom and I are extremely close I have always wondered about our biological relatives. I believe sharing this experience with her will be the most rewarding and entertaining part of the film. It will certainly be engaging because we have no idea what we will find or how the story will end.
The film will chronicle interviews with my mother and grandmother. I will also be recording all phone calls made during our search. We will travel out of town to look through public records and will also visit the home for women and children from where my mother was adopted. My mother’s adoption was sealed and it is unlikely any judge will share her original birth certificate with her. For this reason, we will likely need to retain the services of a private investigator.
It will be an emotional and raw journey but we are both up for the challenge because we want to solve this mystery and uncover our heritage. Please join us! Your donation will empower us to cover expenses for:
Travel and related expenses throughout the filming process
Travel, lodging and meals for both a camera and sound technician to travel from NYC to Washington, DC several times during the school year
DNA testing
Court filing fees
Fees to retain a private investigator
