Hello everyone,
My name is Fatima Lopez I am in the 10th grade and I live in Richmond, California. My parents both immigrated to the United States with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. Still to this day my parents remind me to be grateful and strive high, even when things seem impossible. The community I live in is not the best and at times can be very scary, but I have grown up here and hope to one day provide my parents with a home in a better area.
Next summer, I have the opportunity to participate in an 11 day educational tour of Spain. If I am able to reach my fundraising goal, I will be visiting Barcelona, Madrid, Sevilla and Granada to experience some of the things I have only read about in books or seen on TV. This will be the first time many of my peers and I leave California, and we are eager to immerse ourselves in a new culture, improve our communication, and gain new perspectives.
My parents cannot travel with me but the idea of me visiting Spain brought such hope to their face. At times hope can be very slim especially when things seem unbelievable. Coming from the area I live in many stereotypes put down on us. The fact that I’m a minority in itself says too much. For me this would be amazing and I would not only save the memories and beautiful sights but also the hope and motivation. Being able to go to Spain is just incredible. Just having the opportunity is a blessing and if I got to go I would never forget it. This would mean a lot to me and it would show those who set stereotypes that I can do it , and I can have a bright future.
Our group is already working hard to meet our ambitious goal by organizing small fundraisers around our community. My parents are very enthusiastic people and social butterflies. One of the only things they can do is spread the word and ask for help. I thank them for teaching me their humble ways. I am doing everything I can to make this dream a reality and I really need your support.
Every donation makes a difference, and I assure you that throughout my hard work and my own desire to succeed, I will make your donations count. Please consider investing in my dream summer program and my future, and I will do everything in my power to not let you down.
