Help Jason Battle Cancer

Jason is a loving father of three boys, hardworking member of the construction industry, and as of 5 months ago, was well on his way to a full and prosperous life.

In 2009, after working tirelessly to stay employed during the recession, Jason lost his full time job with a local Union masonry contractor. Work was sparse over the next few years, but Jason contributed to local projects such as Levis Stadium and the new Apple “spaceship”. Over that time, often going months without work, Jason eventually lost both his home and two vehicles. Gradually getting back on his financial feet after getting a new job and some consistent work in early 2016, Jason took a moderate fall on the job back in May of this year. The resulting medical examination and routine x-rays uncovered a large mass in his chest and multiple lesions on his collar bone. Further study painted the full picture of Jason’s predicament: Jason has bile duct cancer with liver and bone metastasis. Over half his liver has been consumed and the cancer entered his blood stream, leaving tumors in his lungs, on his spine and in other areas scattered throughout his bones.

Jason has tired his hardest to be optimistic, telling everyone that he has no intention of giving up, “I want to see my boys grow up.” Often teary at the thought of missing their future, Jason has weathered multiple rounds of chemo and radiation, a story far too common. In the past two weeks, Jason’s physical health has taken a decidedly apparent course: his tumors are no longer responding to the chemo, he’s come down with pneumonia, and he is losing function of his lower limbs. Radiation and surgery are no longer options for us.

I’m Matt, one of Jason’s cousins. Family is everything to us, and we have rallied around Jason, his wife Tonya, and their three sons Alexander, Joseph, and Nathanael. I’ve started this GoFundMe in hopes that the local community will take our love for him to the next level, offering their support to Jason and his family, and lift the Scofield’s on their shoulders as they move through this traumatic and life-changing time.

The raised funds will be used to cover his past and future medical costs and the burdensome expenses associated with such a terrible fight with cancer. While his need is immediate and great, his love for his family is unmatched and we are all hoping and praying for the best. Any and all contributions would make a lasting impact on the Scofield family, and would be immensely appreciated.
