Hello everyone. My little girl and I had a fire a little over a week ago. On September 8th around 9:15 pm my daughter and I had just arrived home after a long day of work and practice. We had just came home and was getting ready for bed when I noticed I did not have my phone . I ran out to the car to get my phone and I noticed my brother sitting in the middle of the street lying back in his seat barely able to move. He was so weak that he could not drive himself to CVS to get medicine and asked me to drive him. I was tired but I took him. We left to go the CVS and when we returned out house was in flames! There were neighbors banging on the door thinking we were still inside because my car was still there. As I approached the house I yelled "my house is on fire!!!" My brother jumped up and tried to get out the car. He tried to get the front door opened but the smoke was so thick and black and forcefully pushed him out of the door. I called 911. It seemed like it took them forever...I called multiple times and by the last time I told them "I guess I will put my own fire out then.!"
The water hose was not long enough to go around the house where the fire was coming out so , I knocked on my neighbors door vehemently screaming my house is on fire!! And I need to use your water spout. It was like running a faucet on a field of fire.
Finally, the fire trucks showed up and took over. I was in tears. The Fireman told me that the smoke was so intense that had my daughter and I fell asleep we would not have awaken because the level of carbon dioxide was so high it would have put us into a deeper sleep.
Although overwhelmed with emotion, I was grateful that God saved our lives! We lost everything but we still have each other.
My daughter slept through the entire scene, and when she awakened she cried and said, so sadly "Mommy you could have saved my babydolls!" I just held her and told her I got you and you got me! And mommy will buy you another baby doll. "Her world" which are her baby dolls were gone!
Sometimes we don't understand what happens in our lives and wonder if God notices or even is concerned about our welfare...but He does care.
If my brother had not gotten sick and had not been too weak to drive himself to get his medicine we would not be here today,
We were only gone about 35 mins and so much damage had occurred and so quick.
So when I think about all these events and my coworkers that say "how can you smile at a time like this?" I smile and say "because it could have been worst!"
My insurance only covered the dwelling. No personal items at all. So we have to start all over again.
I appreciate those who already have reached out to us and have blessed us with whatever they were able to bless us with.
I have used what I have received to try to salvage our clothes. It is expensive to try to get the smoke out of the clothes. I pay to wash repeatedly to try to remove as much smoke scent as I can and a lot I have had to throw away. My daughter is asthmatic so most of her clothes have to be discarded.
We still have to live, and go to work. My daughter has to go to school.
I salvaged a few uniforms for her.
The reality is we need to rebuild our lives again.
Finally, I want to thank everyone that have helped us. We thank each person for their prayers , their thoughts and their expression and love.
Thank you mommy and daughter.
