Total Hip Replacement

Hello Everyone,

My name is Patrick Sherlock McNett. I am 37, live in Santa Cruz, and used to spend my free time playing soccer, disc golf, basketball, and a number of other sports. My mom tells me that I learned to run the same day I learned to walk, and my dad would often refer to me as Tigger (from the lovable children’s stories about Winnie the Pooh).  Physical activity settles my soul, the act of play has a profound effect on my well-being.

Freedom of movement is a cornerstone of who I am.

My life has changed drastically over the past 5 years. I have been living in an extreme amount of pain, caused by hip dysplasia with advanced osteoarthritis. In other words, the cartilage in my left hip joint has broken down and is bone-on-bone, and has developed bone spurs. Did I mention that I’m only 37?

I rarely sleep through the night and often lay in bed for hours trying to get comfortable enough to fall asleep.  Fortunately, I have been able to avoid prescription pain pills. 

The pain is constant and I limp everywhere I go.  I can’t run to cross the street without pain.  I have put off surgery for nearly four years, exploring every alternative, but with little relief.  I have reached my breaking point with the physical pain and the emotional side effects.

A close friend recommended creating a Go Fund Me page to help me raise enough money to get this taken care of. I have saved some money but I am not close to the amount required for the surgery (even with my insurance). Not knowing when I will be able to get the surgery continues to wear me down.
