Texas Theatre for Young People

Help us build our dream!

Texas Theatre for Young People
was founded by Joe Sturgeon and Jeremy Blaido in April 2016 because of the desire to build a world-class professional theatre for children and young people in the northern mid-cities area of DFW.

Our Mission
To provide remarkable theatrical experiences for children, produced in a professional setting.

The Bluebird

Through the generosity of EA Young Academy, Texas Theatre for Young People has found a free home in the "gymnacafetorium" of the school, which is located in North Richland Hills, TX.   This convenient location in the northern mid-cities area of DFW has allowed us to begin to offer professional theatre instruction to our students.  It also has enabled us to present three productions in this space:  ROMEO + JULIET with teen actors, THE BLUEBIRD with middle school actors, and our first ever professional production KOKO KARATE AND THE KUNG FU KITTENS.  Our fourth show will be THE CHRISTMAS CAROL RADIO BROADCAST OF 1942.  All of these productions are original or adapted works for the stage.

Romeo + Juliet

Our Vision
To be national leaders in the endeavor to present theatre to young people as a profound cultural and artistic force in the world.

We need to raise $12,500
This money will be used to support the growth and operation of our theatre. We have big dreams!

Here is exactly what the money is used for:

Salaries of actors in our productions
We desire to be a professional theatre - and ultimately to offer equity contracts to the actors in our productions. While we grow into that dream we are still committed to pay our actors a stipend for the work they do on stage.

Salaries of contracted professionals
A well run production has many competent people behind the scenes making everything run smoothly.  Just as there are no small parts on stage, every person back stage plays a role in the excellence of each show. The directors, music directors, choreographers, scenic designers, costumers, stage managers, carpenters - and more - are critically important to our success.  We want to provide opportunities for these talented folks to share their gifts at our theatre.

Sets, costumes, and props
Even with limited resources, we pay extra attention to the details of sets, props and costumes and these costs can add up quickly.

Staffing
At present, Joe Sturgeon is our only paid staff member. He is working full time as the Artistic Director of the theatre. Jeremy Blaido "moonlights" as the General manager and works another full time job. We desire staff up as we grow, but the immediate neeed is paying our Artistic Director's salary.

Marketing
No one will come to see a show if they dont know about it, and they will not know about it if we don't tell them. Building an audience takes time and effort and advertising takes money.  We need resources to get the word out to the northen mid-cities area about our classes and professional productions.

We need to raise a minimum of $12,500 to fund theatre operations through the end of 2016.
This money will enable us to focus on continuing the important work of building a haven for the arts in the northern mid-cities, and allow us to provide opportunities to working theatre professionals.

We are grateful for your support!
