Joshua, 31 years old, spent 82 days in hospital in Atlanta following a major heart attack. He was sent down to surgery after waiting a week in the hospital and aspirated while trying to sedate him. He spent 5 weeks in ICU on total life support including vent, ECMO (heart-lung machine), heart balloon pump and 24/7 dialysis. When he was being removed from the ECMO, he threw a clot which hit his spinal cord causing paralysis from the waist down. He suffers from PTSD and ICU Dementia. He has Stage 4 pressure sores because when he was on life support they never rotated him. He was sent home without any support (hospital bed, wheelchair, oxygen, etc.) until he had his primary doctor order it. He was placed on home health which was canceled because no agency in the area will take his medicaid insurance. He has been denied emergency disabilty 6 times because they claim there is no proof of his disability. He is a Type-1 diabetic with diabetic kidney disease, loss of sight in one eye, neuropathy of his hands feet and bladder and now is in congestive heart failure. He was airlifted to a hospital in Gainesville on Sunday 9/18. They are wonderful at Ronnie Green Heart Center at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. As of this date, September 21, 2016, he still is facing open heart surgery in October. He has 3 main arteries that are 100% and 2 that are 85%. He is to have quintuple bypass surgery. This will not happen till they get infection under control.
The funds will go to keep his wife and myself at the hospital to help him find the strength to go through this ordeal. It will also help maintain his 8 year old son who is staying with family members while we are out of town. Funds will also go towards renting or purchasing equipment needed to assist with his care at home. And help with personal finaces.
A mother's love is strong for her children but even mom's struggle and need support. I have been blessed with a priceless network of friends. I realize everyday that we are blessed to have Josh in our lives.
Thank you for your help.
