"For the Big Guy"

Donation protected
Sometimes in life we make decisions that we end up paying the price for.  That’s what just happened to a friend who not because he's 6'5" but because of the size of his heart we refer to as the "Big Guy" - Adam Hermanson.
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon September the17th Adam and three of his friends exited from an airplane at 10,000 feet on a tracking skydive.  As the four friends tracked across the sky everything was perfect, and life was good.  At 4,000 feet the four skydivers separated and deployed their parachutes. Adams parachute opened normally and he grabbed his steering toggles and started flying his canopy through the warm calm air eventually turning in for his approach to the landing area. And that’s when tragedy struck. As Adam was setting his parachute up for landing he was unable to pull his parachute out of its dive and flew straight at the ground at a high rate of speed, Seconds later he hit the ground with incredible force before the parachute could slow down.

In the landing area the urgent calls went out and his friends ran to his aid as Adam lay there broken and seriously injured.
Our Big Guy, the gentle giant was down.

Damn.

Decisions have consequences and Adam's current situation reflects that, but make no mistake his accident is not the reason for this page.

This page was created because of everything Adam has been to us long before this accident and I gotta tell you when I think of all those things it really hurts to see our Big Guy lying in a hospital bed.

Adams 6'5" 230 pound frame is completely dwarfed by the size of his heart. If you need help with something he's always there.  When someone’s afraid to ask for help you've heard him say "Dude it's no problem, I'll just grab my stuff and we'll go do it". And like a lot of guys who have a pickup truck he's helped a lot of people.  It's amazing that a guy who works so many hours can find enough time to help everyone else. And adam being Adam he never asks for anything in return.  Some would say he is generous to a fault.

Skydive New Mexico members know well how Adam will do things for his friends.  Adam doesn't have much but when the club needed another airplane Adam sold several of his personal possessions, took the risk and financed a plane for skydiving so that we could all have fun. What you may not know is that beyond his monthly payment he continues to pay out of his pocket to keep that plane going for us.  Adam loves that airplane and it took him one step closer to his dream of learning  how to fly and becomming a Pilot.
Something that is in question now as his dreams of the future with 91Romeo are unsure.

But it's about more than what he does for others; it's about how he treats all of us.  He's always the first one to reach out and shake your hand or give you a hug.  With his soft spoken voice he's often there to reassure you when you're down and makes everything better with his humor and that Adam smile and funny laugh. He's so genuine that when he talks you can tell he really cares about you. This world could sure use a few more people like Adam.

Chances are if you're reading this you already know how generous and kind Adam is to us all.

Now here we are, a lot of us looking at him in that hospital bed and feeling helpless, our Big Guy who we all care so much about is down, needs our help and we can't fix him.
But I know a lot of you are thinking the same thing, that there is something we can do and it's the right thing to do.
Its payback time with a vengence !

I know most of you aren't millionaires and have your own commitments, but together we are strong and at this moment, right now, when he really needs us we can make a difference.
A little donation each week could help him with all life’s normal bills until he can get back up and fight for himself.

If you've ever wanted to do something special, or to get in the fight now is your time.  Go fight for Adam!
Step forward and donate what you can each week. Share Adam's story with others so that together we can make this happen.  Ask your friends, your parents, your employers, to help you raise funds for this friend in hour of need.  Get up and go fight for this guy!
And after we do this for him  you'll be able to look back and say;
"When the Big Guy was down I Stood Up!"
