When it rains, it pours!
On Thursday, September 22, my husband, Don, will under go a 5 - 6 hour surgery to remove an orange-sized tumor from his esophagus. For a while, the doctors weren't even sure if they could do the surgery because of a continuing string of health issues that snowballed in to Don's life in the past 4 years. It is with reluctance that I'm sharing with you our story and ask for your support, love & more importantly, your prayers & positive thoughts for Don. I do so in hopes of helping him worry less financially so he can put more of his energy into healing!
In 2012, Don was perfectly healthy when he caught a virus that enlarged his heart, caused heart failure & left him with only 10% heart function. This resulted in the implantation of a pacemaker/defibrillator. It also resulted in Don not being able to work & having no insurance. Later that year, in a follow-up visit to the doctor, it was discovered that Don has leukemia.
Then, in the fall of 2015, Don was rear ended in a car accident. When they did a CT scan in the ER, they discoved he had nodules on his lungs and was diagnosed with emphysema/COPD. In a follow-up scan this spring, Don was informed of a large tumor in his chest.
Because of all his other health issues, multiple tests and hospital/doctor visits were made to determine if the doctors felt he could tolerate the surgery & handle the anesthesia. Which brings us to the surgery scheduled for September 22nd.
In the midst of this, I have had my own health struggles, dealing with fibromyalgia. Beyond the chronic pain & fatigue, I endure migraines daily. It was the day after Don's tumor was diagnosed that my doctor told me I had developed an autoimmune disease & need to see a rheumatologist.
All of these health problems have resulted in an ever-mounting pile of medical bills, with more on the way. This is why I'm reaching out for both your help & encouragement.
All funds raised will be used only for doctor visits, hospital fees, various tests & ongoing medications that will be required as we battle our multiple conditions.
Please consider sending love, support through this gofundme campaign, prayers & positive thoughts to help Don focus on healing. If you find it in your heart to do so, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts & will be forever grateful!!
