Hello! My name's Christina. My husband and I have 5 kids, and our youngest, Willow, has to have a Bone Marrow Transplant. She was born with Cartilage Hair Hypoplasia (a rare form of dwarfism). Her newborn screening alerted doctors of SCID (severe combined immunodeficiency). Willow is 3 and the most loving, kind, and energetic child you’d ever meet. She has been isolated her entire life, never been anywhere in public; she even enters doctors' offices through a back door. Since she has no immune system, she gets sick very easily. She has lots of breathing problems; she has laryngomalacia (floppy airway). She takes two inhalers and a respiratory vest daily and still can’t play too hard, or she can’t breathe. She has some lung damage from all the viruses she’s had. Willow was also born with a heart defect that will require surgery in her adolescent years. She has to have a central line placed on October 2nd, and she’ll start chemotherapy on the 3rd, and the transplant is scheduled for the 10th. Willow and I will be in Duke Hospital for close to a year, while Dad stays with the kids at home, and they’ll visit every other weekend if things go great. If you could help out at all, it would be greatly appreciated, and even if you’re not able to, please just keep our family in your thoughts. The funds will be used for medical that isn’t covered under insurance, gas, groceries and any other needs Willow may have.
