I guess I'll start by telling u a little about us my name is Amanda Tucker I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart Brandon Tucker. We have 1 child a sweet & sassy 8yr girl named Sydney & a very handsome furry son named Odin. Now here is our story.
About 7 weeks ago our daughter was diagnosed with
Henoch-Schonlein purpura ( HSP) is a disorder that causes inflammation and bleeding in the small blood vessels in your skin, joints, intestines and kidneys. The most striking feature of HSP is a purplish rash, typically on the lower legs HSP can also cause abdominal pain and aching joints. Rarely serious kidney damage can occur. At first Sydney just had mild symptoms like some stomach pain leg cramps & the purplish rash all over her legs and buttocks. The doctors said it should go away in 6 weeks or so. Well it just got worse the rash moved to Sydney arms the swelling in her legs and feet were worse then ever. Then on May 20th she started swellin in her face which worried us so we called Sydney pedestrian told us to give her something for the swelling if it didn't help take her to children's hospital so we did the next day it had went down alot but was still puffy so gave her a little more medicine which helped but made her sleep most of the day but on the morning of Tuesday May 22nd Sydney woke up her face more swollen then it had ever been and had blurred vision so we rushed her to Birmingham to children's hospital. When we got here Sydney blood pressure was so high the nurse took it twice bc he thought the 1st one was wrong due to the size of the arm cuff but it wasnt they did a ultrasound of her kidneys and they were very inflamed so they admitted her that day and have been here since. Sydney has had a kidney biopsy a few rounds of High doses of steroids, BP meds and a high doses of Cytoxan. Cytoxan is actually a cancer drug, but in lupus patients, it's used to treat serious kidney inflammation (including lupus nephritis) or other complications that threaten the organs. So she had to be monitored closely and just wait for her levels to even out and her kidneys to start working right again. My husband and I both work and have missed alot my husband has had PTO for most of this but he's out now and I dont get PTO. Sydney has Medicaid but there is still our personal bills mortgage insurance utilities food and with no work things are just piling up. I have never been the one to ask for money but my family Is more important then my pride. So if u can help that's so great if not that's ok too I know times are hard for everyone right now so If u could say a prayer for sydney to get better is good enough...
