On the night of March 14, our beloved Monica Lopez was at home when she suddenly could not breathe. Despite trying to get up, she could not move due to her severe asthma. Her family called an ambulance before she lost consciousness and she was admitted to the hospital that same night. Though doctors were able to stabilize her, her heart had stopped for quite a bit of time, making it uncertain if she would wake up. After days of being extensively monitored by doctors and nurses, Monica was heartbreakingly pronounced brain dead on Tuesday March 17, 2026 at 5:07pm.
Monica was kindness in its purest form. She had a way of caring for people so deeply and effortlessly that many felt she was their very best friend. She found beauty in the smallest moments and turned them into something meaningful, something unforgettable. Monica lived life to the beat of her own drum, never letting her asthma dim her spirit or slow her down. She'd playfully say, "It ain't easy being wheezy," before taking a puff of her inhaler and jumping right back into the laughter, the music, and the people she adored. She had a gift for bringing others together, for making everyone feel seen, included, and loved. The world feels a little dimmer without her in it, but in the hearts of her friends and family, she will always be the vibrant, quirky, and deeply cherished Monica who made life brighter just by being herself.
In this time of deep loss, one of the most meaningful ways we can show our love for Monica and her family is by coming together in support. Contributing to this GoFundMe is more than just a donation—it’s a gesture of compassion, a way to ease the weight of financial burdens while grieving someone so special. Every contribution, no matter the size, is a reminder that they are not alone in this, that Mo
nica’s love continues to run through all of us.
