3D Printing Face Shields for Medical Staff COVID19

I am a young professional with experience in design, manufacturing, and production planning. In my spare time, I am a hobbyist with a 3D printer. 

Recently, my professional work got suspended due to COVID-19, and I now have a lot of free time on my hands. I want to stay productive and use this time to source supplies such as medical face shields, which are currently in high demand.

So far I've been operating alone - running a 3D printer 24/7 to produce a very small batch of face shields, with occasional complications. There is clearly a need for reliability, support and sense of community as the COVID-19 is rapidly spreading across the region of Montreal.

I've been working around the clock, and all the funding has been out of my own pocket. However, I am really enjoying myself - working on my hobbies and, at the same time, supporting the community! All the donations will be used to fund this jump-started project (e.g. PLA filament, transparent sheets, maintenance and replacement of parts) with potential administrative needs as it evolves (recruitment of volunteers, utilities, etc.). 

The funds will be withdrawn regularly. Up to now, I have amassed over $950 in material costs, and plan on placing more orders in the upcoming weeks. Also, the past few days, it's been very difficult to find materials since many stores are either closed, or have run out of stock. With more funding, it will be easier to try different types of materials that are still available.

I am doing what I can to give back to my community, even if the daily production is fairly slow. I am still developing my skills, but hope to continue expanding this project. If all goes well, I plan on purchasing a second 3D printer, and reaching-out to those with similar hobbies. 

We are all responsible for our own actions and each one comes with a consequence - whether it's positive or negative. During this difficult time, WE do what has to be done to maximize happiness and well-being for the affected individuals. Stay strong and keep safe.
