BLUE BUTTERFLIES, BOUNDLESS LOVE AND AMAZING MEMORIES

It’s two years since our darling has gone Home.  As per her desires she was cremated.  It all happened so fast; we gave her a wonderful service, but still she needs to be remembered for the amazing soul, the beautiful woman she was.

She has sent us many blue butterflies, her way of saying, “Hello, I’m here.” Blue butterflies, although not rare are uncommon, special, like our Meggie was, and have come to have deep significance for us.

Wherever Meggie went, no matter what time, she always called to let me know she got there safely.  When she first passed, I prayed and prayed that she send me a sign. Later I realized to my great dismay that we had never recorded that amazing singing voice of hers. It was shortly after that, in the very bottom of one of her trunks that I was sorting through, I found one of her Karaoke CD’s.  On it, she had recorded a duet of a song from the Disney movie, Aladdin, “A Whole New World.” After listening to her singing it, I screamed with joy, then I fell to my knees in gratitude for the power of prayer and the proof of what my son, Ross, said at his sister’s funeral.  “We don’t die, we just change our energy’s form.”

I should therefore have not been surprised when she sent me another amazing message about how she wished to be honored.  Those who knew my daughter know that she was a crazy, wacko animal lover.  When giraffes came to the Elmwood Park Zoo just two blocks from my house, nothing could keep her away.  We spent many hours at that zoo, and I still laugh about the special live butterflies display the zoo once had, watching Meg trying to get a picture of a butterfly in flight.

Last summer while looking to purchase plants for my yard, I went to Rhodes Garden on Route 202.  It took my breath away.  As soon as I entered, there sat a wrought iron garden bench in the shape of a huge butterfly…and it was blue!  That same day, I went to the zoo to ask, if I were to somehow purchase that bench, would they accept it as a gift.  The Director said, not only yes, but told me he knew the bench, had had it on loan the previous spring and everybody loved sitting in it, especially the children.  He even agreed to help me find an engraver to put Meg’s name on it.

This undoubtedly is the best memorial that our darling could ever have and she would love it.  The problem is, the bench is over $4,000 dollars. I figured it would take me a couple more years to save that much, when my often surprising son said, “Mom, so many people loved Meg, they’d probably like to be a part of this.  Why not set up a GoFundMe account?”  The more I thought about it, the more sense his question made to me. I remember how so many of you shared that terrible day with us; I remember your outpouring of love, your manifestation of how important my daughter was in your lives. Of course you would!

So, I’m reaching out to you as we move from sorrow and loss to gratitude and remembrance.  I’m inviting you to be a part of the bench memorial, in the shape of a blue butterfly which I know my Meggie wants in the middle of the zoo, kids crawling all over it!

And thanks for any amount you can give, but most of all for being a part of her life. She loved you all.

Most sincerely,

Megan’s Mom
