It's difficult to know where to begin, but here we go.
Our son, Enzo, had a stroke in utero. This caused a lesion in the right side of his brain (1/3 of the right side is missing) effecting his left side and he was diagnosed with Spastic Hemi Paresis Cerebral Palsy at nine months old. He is a high functioning kid and is only effected about 10-15% on his left side. He was doing great.
In September 2014, he had a Grand Mal seizure and was then diagnosed with Epilepsy. Two more Grand Mals and thousand of petite Mals later we are still figuring out how to help him. We just got back from
Stanford and hopefully this new medicine will work or we might have to look into brain surgery.
In May 2015, our daughter, Kira, passed out in school and went to the ER. After a week of thinking she just had a virus and was anemic with hemoglobin 9 g/dL she dropped to hemoglobin 5 g/dL. We were rushed down to Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. She had internal bleeding from a very rare Dieulafoy Lesion. After multiple procedures and a blood transfusion, the bleeding stopped right when her class was praying for her, what a miracle! She will always have this lesion and we control it by a strict diet.
In April 2016, my husband had chest pains and considering his family history, we did not take it lightly. Another trip to the ER and tests ran. Thankfully, he checked out okay but we have definitely changed eating habits and he feels so much better.
We have had such amazing family and friends rally behind us in the past. I guess I didn't want to ask any more for help and thought we will just pay $20 a month to all of these bills over the next five years. It is overwhelming and crippling at times but we have been as diligent as possible.
Here is the reality of it:
Enzo's MRI Bill $2044.00
Enzo's EEG Bill $1042.00
Enzo's Neulorgist Bill $ 450.00
Kira's Gastrologist Bill $1269.00
Kira's Ambulance Bill $ 663.48
Eric's ER Hospital Bill $2039.34
Eric's ER Doctor Bill $ 667.04
Grand Total $8,174.86
Toward the end of our worship service this morning (9.18.16) our pastor, Bryan Stupar asked if there were any who had significant needs in their lives pertaining to housing and/or debt. The idea behind the invitation was to create awareness within the church family so others can come along side and help carry each other's burdens and/or fulfill their needs in the name of God's love. I almost didn't raise my hand as the mere thought of talking about our situation has been exhausting.
However, the Holy Spirit is amazing and when He moves He moves! So, reluctantly I made my need known. To say that I'm overwhelmed by my church family's love and generosity would be an understatement. Knowing you are praying for us is all we really want but you have extended so much more to my family and I am blown away at His grace and love. Every little bit is a huge demonstration of God's love, which helps us immensely. "
In His Arms,
Eric, Keilah, Kira (11) and Enzo (9) Smith
