2nd Annual GoFundMe campaign to support the Abaco Shelter in the Bahamas! There are hundreds of success stories for the Royal Bahamian Potcakes, a mixed-breed street dog that inhabits the Bahamas. Once thought to be doomed to a life on the street, fighting for every morsel of food they could get and searching for shelter from weather extremes including the summer heat and hurricanes, many of these loyal and loving pups now instead find themselves enjoying all the comforts of a loving home. This is made possible by the unwavering effort of a handful of volunteers, who work tirelessly to make it happen, but they can't do it without the support of the community! Operating costs run on average around $66K per year, most of which is donated by our faithful supporters!

With the help of our supporters in 2024, the Abaco Shelter, operating under the 501 (c) 3, Royal Potcake Rescue USA, Inc. was able to take in 76 dogs/puppies, adopt out 57 of them, and provide 211 spay and neuter services. The shelter currently houses, on average, 40-50 adult dogs and puppies who need daily care. There are multiple fosters on the island and surrounding Cays who also help to care for puppies due to the shelter being at capacity most of the time! The shelter also helps the local community by assisting with vet care for those who cannot afford the treatment.

Dr. Bailey and Vet Tech Chamara, unyielding supporters of the shelter's efforts to S/N and provide vet care throughout the year.

Sweet MINNIE is one of our resident seniors. She was pulled from a septic hole, where she was trapped and submerged. She's a happy girl now and the queen of the shelter!

It's a regular occurance that the shelter receives a call to rescue a litter of puppies. While they are cute...they require lots of TLC! Sometimes the pups stay at the shelter and sometimes they go with a foster, it all depends on occupancy.
And sometimes...we rescue pregnant mommas who deliver their pups at the shelter.

Our focus continues to be on S/N to prevent the population from growing. We are generally able to hold 2 big clinics annually, our most recent being 2/15/25. Alongside Dr. Bailey, we had the good fortune of having 3 additional vets and their vet techs who flew in to volunteer from the US. Together, they were able to complete 68 animals in one day!

Monetary donations continue to be desperately needed to keep up with operations. The money we raise will be used for food, spay and neuter clinics, vaccines/medications, vet visits, transport for dogs, repair to dog shelters due to wear and tear or storm damage, and any of the other basic necessities needed to operate the shelter.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Won't you please consider making a donation so we can continue to care for these sweet pups and control the population! All monetary donations are helpful and will be put to good use! With sincere thanks from the Abaco Shelter volunteers and the potcakes!
