At the young age of 54, Bob Cabral passed away suddenly on September 13, 2016, leaving his wife Maureen and three daughters, Theresa (13), Katey (10) and Marissa (8).
With the passing of Bob, Maureen and the girls have lost a husband, a father, a friend, a companion, their rock and their primary source of income and, as his death was sudden, there wasn’t much time to prepare for the financial implications of such a loss.
Unfortunately, funerals and the affairs that follow are incredibly expensive. This campaign is to help with these expenses and any additional every day expenditures Maureen and the girls will incur in the days and weeks ahead of them. We hope that the funds raised by this campaign will alleviate some of the burdens the Cabral family will encounter and that the funds will allow them to persevere in the face of adversity.
Bob spent a greater part of his life giving to others and we hope you will join us in giving back to his family in his honor.
Bob was a graduate of Newton North High School and lived in the Newton/Watertown area his entire life. He worked for the City of Newton Department of Utilities for 29 years, and was deeply involved in his community. He was a very familiar face at the Watertown Boys and Girls Club where he spent many Saturdays volunteering. He ran the concession stand for all Biddy Basketball games and all home swim meets, both of which made up a major part of the fundraising contribution for the Watertown Wavemakers. He also volunteered as a coach for the Watertown Girls U10 softball team. His passion for softball sparked a love for the sport in many young players resulting in his recent team being one of the most successful in town history, losing only four games. His involvement in the community was passed down to his three daughters, who are regulars at the Boys and Girls Club where they spend a great deal of time in afterschool activities. Bob attended every swim meet, swim lesson, Biddy Basketball game, floor hockey game, softball game, and school concert that the girls ever had, and he had an ineffable amount of pride in his children which was obvious to everyone around him.
Bob cared deeply about everyone in his community, always asking those he met how they and their families were doing. He seemed to remember what was going on in everyone’s lives and genuinely cared about the wellbeing of other members in his community. He was always excited to talk about his favorite sports teams, especially the Bruins, Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. He loved attending games with his family, and, because he loved sharing his passion for his beloved teams, it was always a joy to watch a game with Bob.
We were all very lucky to have known Bob and to be the recipient of his love and kindness. Bob’s passion for life and his love for his family, his friends, his community and his Boston sports teams will never be forgotten.
