Hi everyone,
I am writing because after being pushed by several wonderful women, I have decided to run for Ms. Wheelchair Maryland. I have been paralyzed now for 4 years and have finally found a place where I am more comfortable within my own skin than I have been in 4 years. That being said, I think sharing my story with other women, both newly in wheelchairs or even women that have been in chairs for so long and can't find their place in this world makes me so sad because I have been there and did not have anyone to lean on and I want to be that someone women can turn to when they need help and advice. I believe that where I am now, I can truly make a difference and inspire so many other people and I truly believe that is one of my most important reasons that these diseases have not killed me and my purpose is to change these peoples lives. (The fees that I need help with are the registration fees for Ms. Wheelchair Maryland as well as a dress and overnight hotel stay to compete.)
I am incredibly grateful for all the support that I have had in the last 10 years from each and every one of you that have been a part of my life and helped me to get to this place where I am finding more comfort within my own self, finally and that is all I want for other people who have been in my place. I still need all the support I can get because I am so NERVOUS!!!! But I think this will truly encourage others to get past some of the hardest places they may be in their lives. I remember the first several years, I felt so lost and confused and alone and I don't want another person to feel the way I did ever again, so my goal is to help as many people as I can through this competition. So, once again I am asking for your help, support and love.
I am incredibly thankful already for the amount of support that I have and it truly means the most to me, this is something I was too afraid to do 2 years ago and now y'all have given me the courage to step out of my comfort zone and try my absolute best to help as many others as I possibly can. Again, thank you all so much for EVERYTHING!!!
Love,
Melissa
