On October 1st, nine young lives were tragically taken in a shooting on the campus of Umpqua Community College. Umpqua Outreach is a project that seeks to utilize theatre as a means of fostering healing and connecting with this community through the theatre arts. This is one of multiple projects designed to place UCC theatre students in direct contact with their regional peers, potential mentors, and fellow artists.
Proceeds for this GoFundMe Campaign will fund 2 UCC Theatre Students going to the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in Denver this February. By immersing themselves in theatre workshops, performances, keynote speeches, and interactions with their regional college theatre peers, we hope to foster their growth as artists and students, and welcome them into our regional theatre family. It is our hope that through these interactions, they begin to cultivate their voices and skill sets in ways that allow healthy processing and healing around the tragic events they were exposed to. The project anticipates that the positive experiences and knowledge gained at Festival will then be shared and practiced on the UCC campus and reach further into the community.
The money will cover: RT airfare for 2 students, Hotel accomomdations for the week, Food for the week. Registration fees for the conference have been generously donated by KCACTF Region VII for the 2 students.
ANY SURPLUS FUNDS RAISED WILL GO TO THE QUINN COOPER SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT. Quinn was a theatre student and one of the Umpqua Nine.
