Send Nat Home For Mother's Surgery
Donation protected
Family, friends, and generous strangers: I need your help!
My name is Natalie Butler and I am a Maternal & Child Health Volunteer with Peace Corps Rwanda. I have been serving in Rwanda for almost four months now and will serve here for another two years.
As some of you may know, my mother, Janet, has been in poor physical health for quite a while now. In November 2014, my mother was diagnosed with Atypical Facial Nerve Pain, a debilitating and unexplainable pain condition. In January of this year, my mother began slipping into comas lasting 24-72 hours each. She has been in 8 comas since January. The doctors concluded that her comas are onset by Complex Global Seizures, which seem to be triggered by her Atypical Facial Nerve Pain. Recently, my mother was approved for Deep Brain Stimulation, a brain surgery that may hold the potential to cure her pain, seizures, and comas. However, the surgery is very invasive and somewhat dangerous. Not only that, but her recovery from this surgery will be a long and painful road.
With that being said, I feel the need to travel home from Rwanda to support my mother and family during this difficult time. I need to leave as soon as possible, as her surgery will take place before the 21st of this month and it takes at least 24 hours to travel back to the States. Due to Peace Corps procedures, I can only fly through an American airline (e.g. Delta, United Airlines, American Airlines, etc.). As I must leave within the next few days, the cost of a round-trip ticket is quite pricey. I am in need of approximately $2,200 to cover the cost of a round-trip ticket from Rwanda to Kansas City and back again. Please help me reach this goal by donating and/or spreading the word!
Thank you!
