Kyle Grant Accessibility Fund

Donation protected
My name is Justin Whitworth and I have put together this page to help my friend Kyle Grant with the expenses related to his recovery following an accident that has left him for the time being in a wheelchair.  For more detail on Kyle's story you can follow him on Facebook starting with his write-up of the events leading up to and after his accident.

Kyle will be returning home soon and while his recovery is progressing his home has to be drastically modified in a short time frame in order to allow him to be able to function when he does come home.  The modifications include wheelchair ramp access in the garage, moving walls and doorways that are not large enough for wheelchair access, expanding restrooms, creating a functional shower, monitoring/security, and changing counter heights. Aside from time away from work and medical bills this is going to cost the Grant family in excess of $35,000 to make these modifications.
Naturally Kyle was uncomfortable with receiving help but with great humility and much convincing he has agreed to allow financial assistance but was adamant that nobody should feel obligated to donate and that their prayers alone are all that he could ask for.

The accident-

"Friday August 12th, 2016-
This past Friday while working at our hunting lease in a remote section of Webb County Kyle Grant was severely injured when a freak microcell/cyclone blew a metal deer stand over that landed on top of him. Casey Hymer managed s to roll the 1500lb stand off of him, stabilize him, and contact emergency services. Shortly after receiving Casey’s call I was able to contact the ranch manager who retrieved a first responder from the nearby oil rig, Border Patrol, and National Guard. Despite the ground assistance we were still at the mercy of an air extraction. Kyle could not feel portions of his legs and could not move them and he would have to wait almost two hours in the 110 degree heat before a helicopter could arrive. He was then flown to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio where it was determined that he had multiple broken ribs, fractured his ankle, multiple dislocated lumbar disk, and broken four vertebrae in his mid and lower back. After a 9 hour operation late Friday night and an 8 hour operation Sunday the medical staff was able to relieve the disks but had to perform fusions in both his lower and mid back along with supporting rods.

Tuesday August 16th-
The operations are over and a challenging path to recovery begins. Kyle has regained the majority of his feeling in his legs but it is not known if he will regain normal control. The swelling and trauma of the accident and the surgeries will take a few weeks to stabilize to the point to provide a proper assessment of his motor control, in the meantime Kyle is being attended to by the incredible staff here at the SAMMC, his wife Shannon Grant, myself, and a number of friends and family.

A lot of people want to know what they can do to help, and at the moment that is to pray for his continued recovery. We will know more in the coming week about his condition and where he will be located as he works to recover. "
