Little Storm's surgery
Donation protected
In the early hours of August 15th, a petite filly entered the world. Not in the manner in which her dam would have preferred. Optimally, this filly would have been born outside beneath the stars, in a quiet seculded place like the rest of Mina's foals. Instead, Mina had been rounded up the day before and run into a stock trailer with other members of her herd. These descendants of the Morgan Easter Twilight bloodlines had been running on 1,500 acres and lived and bred as they pleased for years and now the herd had reached around 90 head. Although the owner had decided that the herd would be sent for slaughter, the broker had reached out to Forever Morgan's quarantine person, giving the horses an opportunity to find homes first. Heavily in foal, Mina found herself in the first group of horses that were to be catalogued. The stress of the situation was too much and Mina delivered little Storm in a crowed pen. Unfortunately, within minutes of arrival, Storm's left hind leg was stepped on in that small pen with 17 other horses.
Forever Morgans Rescue members arrived the next day. They purchased Mina and Storm and the pair were transported to a farm nearby where Storm could get the medical attention she needed.
Radiographs and untrasounds revealed that Storm has a fracture that needs to be double plated if she is to have any shot at a normal life. Other than the fracture and a torn ligament, she is a happy and healthy filly who bounces around as if nothing is wrong. Upstate Equine Veterinary is offering to perform the surgery at a discounted price of $5,000 and has made Storm a receipient of the Marley Fund, a fund created to help defray the costs of surgery. As we donot know how much the Marley Fund will help, we need to start fundraising.
