Help for Mary's Surgery Recovery
Donation protected
Hello Friends of Mary!
On September 19th, Mary is having surgery. She is having a full hysterectomy, which will require an incision and a recovery period of about a month before she will be back up on her feet.
You might already know that Mary works as an actress, teacher, theatre director, social worker as on air talent for the local NPR station in Lincoln. What you might not know is that these are all part time jobs that pay an hourly wage and do not offer any sick leave or pay for time off.
As any actor, artist or adjunct professor knows, the pay for these jobs barely exceeds minimum wage. This means that while Mary is doing (mostly) what she loves, she has not been able to amass much of a savings to help in her time of need. She is also a single mom who has kids to clothe and feed.
Luckily, Mary's surgery should be covered by medical insurance (we are still waiting to see if it will cover 100% of the costs)--but she will need financial help to get her through her recovery. The money raised will be used to pay rent, bills and any out of pocket expenses from the hospital stay that are not covered by insurance.
As Mary's friend of over 20 years, I can attest to the fact that Mary is the first person to offer me help whenever I have needed it! I will be spending the week of the surgery in Nebraska with Mary, and I'm sure she will find a way to make me laugh no matter how crummy she feels. I know that a little bit of financial security in the next month will lift her burden considerably, helping her to recover quickly and get back to what she loves--all of her many jobs and being a mom to her girls!
Any help, no matter how small, would be deeply appreciated by Mary and her daughters.
Thanks to all of you so very much for considering a donation!
