An 88-year-old woman was severely beaten during a home invasion robbery in East San Jose, a violent attack that has left her neighbors in disbelief.

The woman, who lives alone, suffered “significant facial and head trauma” during the robbery, which occurred sometime between Sunday night and Monday morning, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

“She’s a wonderful lady,” said Suzanne Holland, one of several neighbors who gathered outside the home Tuesday morning. “I hope to God she’s going to be OK. I’m praying for her.”
