Hurricane Melissa Relief for Jamaica

Hi everyone, my name is Samantha, and I’m creating this GoFundMe to help rebuild my mother’s community in Jamaica after the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.
I was stuck in Jamaica when the hurricane hit. My flight was supposed to leave on Thursday, October 30th, but everything changed overnight. The Montego Bay Airport was completely destroyed, leaving many stranded — including myself.
But the real heartbreak is what happened in the community where my mom was born and still lives. The damage is unimaginable.
• Homes have lost their roofs
• Roads are washed out and barely passable
• Livestock and crops are gone
• Vegetation has been completely wiped out
• People are hungry, thirsty, and struggling to survive
The island looks like a different world — no trees, no greenery, just devastation. Many lives were lost, and those who survived are now trying to piece together what’s left.
I want to help rebuild the place my family calls home — to restore homes, bring food and water to those in need, and help revitalize the community from the ground up. Every single donation, no matter how small, will go toward supplies, rebuilding materials, food, and emergency aid for families who have lost everything.
My name is Samantha Warren, and I’m from Minneapolis, Minnesota. I was in Jamaica visiting my mom when Hurricane Melissa hit. I travel to Jamaica several times a year to visit her, and this time, I ended up being there during one of the most devastating storms I’ve ever seen.
The community where my mother lives — the same place where my family has roots — is completely destroyed. Homes have lost roofs, livestock have died, trees are gone, and there’s no vegetation or crops left to feed people. The roads are flooded and damaged, and it took nearly six days to get communication restored on the island.
My family’s own home was damaged — our roof was torn, and we are still cleaning out water and debris. My grandpa’s house needs a new roof and a new gate, and many of our neighbors are facing the same or worse. People are hungry, without power, and struggling to recover.
I am raising funds to:
• Send barrels and containers of food and essential supplies to families in the community
• Help repair roofs and homes, starting with my mom’s and grandpa’s
• Purchase a community generator, so people can charge their phones, access Wi-Fi, and contact their families during future disasters
• Support rebuilding efforts, including clean-up, roofing materials, and basic necessities
This community means everything to me, and I want to help bring it back to life. Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward helping families rebuild and recover from Hurricane Melissa.
