Winter Tents Plus Follow up
The tents have been in place for some time. Now, my wife and I are committed to return again and again. Any additional funds beyond the earlier goal will be used to offset travel expenses and help with spontaneous support while we're there. Following is the original narrative..... My wife and I have made one trip to Cannon Ball, ND to stand with the folks protecting the water. We're preparing to make another trip in the near future. We have learned that there is a strong need for a decent winter tent with heat to house the legal team, as well as a tent for holding meetings.
There is a local business that sells military surplus tents and has a GP small with liner (17x17) with a tent stove, and a GP medium (18x36). I have verified that these two tents will be needed and used if we bring them up. The smaller tent will be used for to house the legal team and the larger one will be for meetings, as far as we know at this point. The intent is to give these tents to the camp leadership to use as they see fit.
We have received some funds already, and at this point 2000.00 additional dollars will be enough to cover our out of pocket costs for purchasing these, but not the expenses for driving them up. If, for some reason, funds beyond the goal arrive before we shut down the fund, we'll pass them on in the way of future supplies for the camp.
The sooner we receive the funds the better, as they need the tents now. This is the time that we can really stand with these folks and show that the time has come for Native rights and unbroken treaties.
It will be wonderful to drive these tents to the camp and tell them that people from all over the country helped us buy them. Those who donate can rest assured they now are a piece of the success of the camp. Those who donate are truly supporting and in solidarity with the people of Standing Rock.
