As many of you are well aware, Jack and Donna Lucarelli are the first to offer help in any form when a need arises. They have hosted countless fundraisers over the years at their restaurant to help people raise money for a variety of things such as medical expenses, student trips abroad, athletic teams, etc;
Donna has reluctanctly agreed to allow me to share with you that they are now in need as Jack has been recently undergoing MRIs, scans, and biopsies to determine the nature of a mass that was recently discovered on his throat.
It began back in July with a constant clearing of his throat and difficulty swallowing. After waiting a few weeks and much prodding from concerned family, Jack went in to see his family doctor who referred him to an ENT for testing. He was scoped and a 2 x2 mass was detected which then required a biopsy. The biopsy came back "suspicious for carcinogenic cells".
They have since followed up with the ENT who laid out a course of action, which brings us to today. Jack is scheduled to go in for a partial thyroidectomy next Wednesday, Sept. 14th where he will be kept overnight in ICU to monitor his airways.
Once removed, that tissue will be sent to a lab to determine whether the mass is malignant or benign. Should it be malignant, they will go back in and remove the rest of Jack's thyroid and follow up with radiation.
As many self employed people are forced to do when faced with the choice of having insurance or keeping food on the table and a roof overhead, Jack and Donna are without insurance.
The medical bills are mounting and they are barely through the diagnostic phase. Please consider making a donation so that Jack can focus on getting well without the burden of the bills that are already coming in. No amount is too small!
