Hi I’m Shaquana brown, unfortunately April 29th, before I could go release some balloons for my grandma on her birthday. I got a call at 4pm I was I just getting off of work when my Midwife called me and urged me to go straight to Memorial Hospital they are waiting for me! I asked a bunch of questions because I have a 8 son & 7 year old daughter. And I go to work and they go to school 45 minutes from where we stay at so I just needed to know if I was going to be here for a day do I need to go home and get some night clothes and uniforms. She urge me that what was going on was more important that I need to be going to the hospitalright then and there. I talk to my family they decided to tell me the same thing. It must be something urgent for my midwife to call me while she’s not even at work. I gave them the keys to my house so they can get everything together for my two little people. I get to the hospital. They tried to tell me that because I was only 19 weeks and four days that I cannot go to the high risk and pregnancy unit like my midwife said I need to do. So I got admitted to the emergency room for like 10 minutes in order for them to get yelled at by the risk prenatal physician telling them that they should’ve received orders for if this patient came in to send me straight up to the second floor. I finally get to the second floor, and a few physicians come in in. They asked me do I know why I’m here and I said is it because I’m anemic they said you might have leukemia.. and you know nowadays we start to look in Google and do research and at that point I’m scared cause I’m like I’m pregnant. I’m about to be five months on Saturday and I might have leukemia. So we’re gonna check your blood and we’re gonna give you bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.. They checked my blood and because I have them my health app that allows me to see everything that they do every time that they request new medication every time labs are ran I was able to see everything. I got my labs and it said I had acute myeloid leukemia. I immediately start freaking out crying in the hospital room because at this point, I haven’t even seen my physician yet. They haven’t even come in to tell me because the labs just generated. My nurse came in to come on me and check my baby’s heartbeat. And she saw that I was crying and asked me what was wrong and I told her that I got my laps back and then she asked me that I see my physician yet and I told her no and she came and hug me for the longest time and she told me she was gonna give me, about 10 minutes later my physician came in and she told me you caught it. Your blood work was fine in February when you switch to Midwife in April if you did not do that, you would not have never known. That will be moved to the oncology and hematology unit and that they had consulted with some of the best hematology units across the United States that deal with chemo and pregnancy. With my birthday coming up May 7 and we having all of these big plans to go take my kids to Disney World and aquatica. I realize that I would have to be fighting the biggest battle that I’ve ever had to fight before. Me a healthy 30 old, who decided that she wanted to start over and have another baby. That I have leukemia. I was devastated devastated that I will be in here from what I read on Google. Just devastated because I already have kids and what did I do to deserve this? My family and my coworkers were strong and supportive. Sending me nothing but prayers and wishes coming to see me or give me some birthday gifts and telling me to stay strong. Here I am May 7, 2024 on my birthday doing a go fund me asking for some help you may not know me. You may not even care, but if you can spread the word anything can help. I did not even expect this for myself and I will not even wish this for anyone else so for now I’m a continue to fight because I still have my two kids, and I still feel my baby rumbling in my tummy all day all night..
